If you are a tea lover, you probably are aware of the fact that tea can also be consumed cold and that iced tea is one of the best things you can turn to when it comes to cooling off during hot summer days. But do you know how to make the perfect iced tea?

Although iced tea seems like an easy thing to prepare, it is good to have some aspects in mind when you are making it, especially if you want to enjoy its flavour. Check out Teatox Australia’s advice for the perfect iced tea:

Tips and Tricks

  • Use a larger than usual quantity of tea; if for hot tea you were using one tea bag for iced tea you can use two or three but keep in mind that some teas, such as black tea, have an intense flavor
  • Use a glass made from good materials for your iced tea and try to stay away from plastic because it can absorb the flavors in the tea and release them in the air faster; also, metal is not recommended because it will most likely change the taste of your tea
  • When you are leaving your tea in the fridge, don’t forget to cover the glass
  • Only use fresh tea and don’t keep in the fridge for more than 24 to 48 hours because it will chance its taste
  • Use agave syrup as a sweetener because it can dissolve in cold water; f you are using sugar, make sure to first dissolve it in some hot water
  • Crush a few mint leaves and add them in your iced tea
  • If you are in a hurry and don’t have time to leave the tea in the fridge you can use some ice cubes but don’t forget to consider this option from the beginning because if you don’t use enough tea, its flavor will not be as intense when the ice will melt.

Now that you know how to prepare the perfect iced tea, check out a few recipes that are perfect for hot days and will turn you into the perfect host.

Green Tea and Mango

  • One cup of fresh green tea (use 2 tea bags)
  • Mango nectar or juice
  • Ice
  • Mind leaves
  • Mango slices

Mix the green tea with the mango nectar or juice, add the ice and top it all off with mint leaves and mango slices.

Irish Breakfast Iced Tea

  • Two cups of hot water
  • Honey
  • Four tea bags of Irish Breakfast
  • Milk

Combine the hot water with the tea bags and let it stay for about four to five minutes (no longer than five minutes as the tea can become bitter). After you’ve removed the tea bags, add honey, leave it to cool off then add the milk.

Iced Tea with Mint and Lime

  • Eight cups of water
  • Ten to twelve tea bags
  • A few leaves of fresh mint
  • Sugar or a sweetener of your choice
  • Half a cup of fresh lime juice
  • Ice
  • A few slices of lime

Once the water is boiled, you can add the tea bags and the mind leaves and leave it for about ten minutes. Afterwards, remove the tea bags, add the sugar and mix until the sugar is completely dissolved. As soon as the tea reaches room temperature, you can put it in the fridge for about two hours. Once the tea is completely cooled, remove the mint leaves and add the lime juice. When you will serve it, don’t forget to add ice and a few slices of lime on top.
